BQ presents the Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition

The Spanish tech company has presented the Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition at Mobile World Congress 2016.

The Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition is the first convergent device to deliver the Ubuntu PC experience and the world’s first tablet with Ubuntu OS.

Barcelona, February 22nd 2016 – On the first day of MWC 2016, Spanish company BQ presented its new tablet, the Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition, the first device to offer a convergent Ubuntu PC experience, and the first tablet in the world with the Ubuntu operating system.

Designed and developed in Spain, this device reinforces the company´s commitment to diversity in both hardware and software, as well as consolidating its collaboration with Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu.

Ubuntu PC convergence has arrived

Together with Canonical, BQ presented the Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition. It is the world’s first tablet with the Ubuntu operating system and the first device to offer a convergent Ubuntu PC experience, which allows the desktop experience to be reproduced on mobile devices. On connecting the Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition to a keyboard and mouse, it can be used in Desktop mode, whereas in Tablet mode the usual tactile functionality of the device is maintained.

Convergence turns the tablet into an uber-practical business tool by combining the PC experience with mobile device usage. Seamless multi-tasking and window management means increased productivity by allowing documents, apps and other features to be used simultaneously. The software interface also adapts to the screen size, a key factor in the multi-device experience.

In terms of the hardware, the Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition comes with a 10.1” Full HD 10-point multi-touch screen and a 7280 mAh battery. It is equipped with a MediaTek MT8163A quad-core processor with up to 1.5 GHz frequency and a MediaTek Mali-T720 MP2 graphic processor up to 600 MHz. A lightweight and compact tablet at 8.2 mm thickness and weighing 470 g.

The Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition will be available in black and will go on sale in the second trimester of this year in the BQ online global store.
